Projects from UNT Sustainability
I worked as Special Projects Coordinator at UNT Sustainability from November 2015 to May 2015, when I graduated. Below are samples of some of the projects I worked on while I was there. In addition to the work below, I also spent time in the director's foyer, acting as a receptionist and helping his Administrative Assistant (and her assistant).
Sustainability Conference Project
When I worked for UNT Sustainability, our director (Dr. Todd Spinks) and the university president (Dr. Neal Smatresk) went to meetings in China to talk to representatives from their universities about how they could imitate UNT's world class sustainability program. The director wanted us to host a conference the next summer, inviting the Chinese representatives to visit Denton and learn about sustainability and see our programs firsthand, such as the wind turbines by the stadium. The university president was new, and turned out not to be supportive, but I had it about halfway planned by the time they told me to hold off. Left is a flyer, which I didn't design but secured and verified the Chinese translation for, and which was distributed by the director in China. Middle is the spreadsheet I used to plan the conference. Right is a sample budget I prepared for the director to talk over with the university president.
Connect 3 Project
The Connect 3 project was developed to leverage the knowledge and passions of our shareholders to support our projects. Left is a privacy-friendly version of a presentation I prepared that the director and one of our consultants (Dr. Brian Calfano, University of Cincinnati) presented to the university president. Right is a sample of some of that data I used, from a variety of sources, including: the Standard Occupational Classifications (SOC) from the Bureau of Labor Statistics; the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS); TexasIndustryProfiles.com, the Texas Workforce web database of all employers in Texas; a survey of teachers in Sanger ISD; profile information on UNT professors affiliated with UNT Sustainability pulled from our website; and fast batch geocoding from SteveMorse.org, among other sources. Assistance in data cleaning by Sidney Hartz, and a text parser for data cleaning programmed by Jonathan Roosa.
